Units built between 2002 and 2006 follow Maytag's two-letter suffix system. However, Amana HVAC units (furnaces, AC) are built by Goodman/Daikin and use a 10-digit numeric format where the first four digits are the year and month (YYMM).

The confusion surrounding Amana stems from its corporate history. Originally an independent company in Amana, Iowa, it was acquired by Goodman in 1997. In 2002, Goodman kept the HVAC side but sold the major appliance side to Maytag. In 2006, Whirlpool acquired Maytag, bringing Amana appliances into the Whirlpool family. Today, the two "Amanas" share only a name and logo—not manufacturing facilities or serial schemes.
