Our story

We're building the
appliance intelligence layer.

ApplianceIQ exists because the information about the physical objects in our homes — appliances that cost thousands of dollars and directly affect our safety — was scattered, unreliable, and hard to get. We're fixing that.

The origin

The problem started
with a dishwasher.

A recalled dishwasher — one of the 8 million appliances under active safety recall in the US at any given time — sat in a home for two years after the recall was issued. The owner had no idea. Nobody told them. The recall notice was mailed to a previous address.

That's not a freak occurrence. It's the default state of appliance ownership in America. Most people know nothing about the appliances they depend on every day. Not how old they are. Not whether they're under an active recall. Not whether the repair they're being quoted makes financial sense.

The information exists — scattered across official recall databases, manufacturer websites, parts catalogs, and forum threads. We pulled it together, verified it, and made it queryable in 5 seconds. That's ApplianceIQ.

"The only platform that returns a complete, verified appliance profile from a single model number — combining government recall data, multi-source serial decoding, and AI-validated specs into one API and one workspace."
ApplianceIQ positioning statement
Our principles
🏛
Real sources, not training data
Recalls come from verified government sources directly. Serial decodes use deterministic tables, not AI memory. We'd rather say "Unknown" than fabricate an answer.
📊
Confidence over coverage
Every field returns a confidence score. We surface what we know, flag what we're uncertain about, and never hide our uncertainty behind false precision.
🔍
Audit-ready by default
Every lookup is logged with sources, timestamps, and confidence. The people using ApplianceIQ for compliance need to be able to show their work.
The team

Built by people who
care about the details.

AK
Alex K.
Co-founder & CEO
Previously led product at a home services platform. Spent 4 years watching repair techs look up appliance data in six browser tabs before every job. Built ApplianceIQ to fix that.
JM
Jordan M.
Co-founder & CTO
Former ML engineer at a major appliance manufacturer. Wrote the first serial decoder for Whirlpool in a weekend. Now leads the agent architecture that powers every lookup.
SR
Sam R.
Head of Data
Built and maintains the 21,000+ record master appliance database. Obsessively tests every manual URL. Responsible for the "we say Unknown rather than guess" policy.
