Why You Need the Model Number — and When

Frigidaire manufactures appliances under three consumer tiers — standard Frigidaire, Frigidaire Gallery, and Frigidaire Professional — plus OEM supply to other Electrolux Group brands. That breadth means a lot of similar-looking appliances with meaningfully different parts. Searching for a replacement water inlet valve using only "Frigidaire front-load washer" will return dozens of options, most of them wrong for your unit. The model number narrows it to exactly one correct part number.

Beyond parts ordering, the model number is the key to four other tasks that come up regularly for homeowners, repair technicians, and inspectors:

• Recall verification: The CPSC recall database (and ApplianceIQ's recall check) are model-number indexed. A brand-level search for "Frigidaire" returns hundreds of results — only model-number lookup tells you whether your specific unit is affected. Frigidaire has had targeted recalls on specific refrigerator defrost heater wiring, gas range igniter assemblies, and dishwasher door latch mechanisms — none visible without model-level filtering.
• Warranty claims: Frigidaire's standard limited warranty (1 year parts and labor, with extended coverage on sealed refrigeration systems and certain compressors) requires the model and serial number to initiate a claim at frigidaire.com/owner-center.

Frigidaire Refrigerators

Frigidaire sells three main refrigerator configurations: top-freezer, French door, and side-by-side. Each has a slightly different label position, and the Gallery (FG) and Professional (FP) variants use the same positions as the standard line within each configuration.

Top-freezer refrigerators (FFTR, FGTR, FPTR series)

Open the fresh food (lower) door. The rating label is on the upper left interior sidewall — the inner wall of the compartment, at approximately eye level when standing in front of an open refrigerator. It reads "Model No." followed by the full model number and then "Serial No." below it. This position is consistent across FFTR models from roughly 2008 onward.

If the label is absent from the upper left wall, check the door jamb on the hinge side — the thin strip of the frame that the door closes against. Older FFTR models (pre-2010) sometimes placed the label here instead.

French-door refrigerators (FGHF, FPHF, FGHN, FFHB series)

Open either fresh food door. The label is most commonly on the upper right interior wall of the fresh food compartment, behind and slightly above the top shelf. On certain wider models (e.g., FGHF2369M, FPBG2278U), the label is on the upper left wall instead. If you see nothing on the upper right, check the left — it will be on one side or the other.

On French-door models with a bottom freezer drawer rather than a swing door, the label is never in the freezer drawer — it is always in the fresh food section above.

Side-by-side refrigerators (FFSS, FGSS, FPSS series)

Open the fresh food (right) door. The label is on the upper right interior wall of the fresh food compartment, typically near the top hinge area. On some side-by-side models, a secondary label appears on the hinge-side door jamb with only the model number (a truncated label useful when the interior label has faded).

Frigidaire Dishwashers

Frigidaire dishwashers (FFCD, FFBD, FGBD, FPID series) place the rating label on the inner edge of the door. Open the dishwasher door to the fully horizontal position and look at the narrow strip along the interior edge of the door panel — the label faces up toward the tub interior when the door is closed, and faces outward toward you when the door is open flat.

On most models, this label is on the left interior door edge. On a smaller number of models (particularly older FGBD2438P and FPID2498Q units), it is on the right interior door edge. If you find nothing on the left, rotate your view to the right side of the inner door.

A third location exists on some FFCD dishwashers: along the right side of the tub interior, visible by opening the door and looking at the right wall of the tub near the top. This is a backup label, sometimes with only the model number and UL certification without the full serial.

The dishwasher label typically survives better than refrigerator or range labels because it's shielded from steam and heat by the door's insulation layer — if yours is faded, try photographing it with your phone's flashlight on.

Frigidaire Ranges and Wall Ovens

Frigidaire range labels are hidden in one of two places depending on the model and configuration. Both locations require opening something — a common frustration when you're expecting a label on an exterior surface.

Freestanding and slide-in ranges (FFEF, FFGF, FGEF, FGGF, FPES, FPGS series)

Open the oven door fully. Look at the left interior door frame trim — the metal trim strip running along the left side of the oven opening, visible when you swing the door open. The label is inset into or adhered to this strip, typically at mid-height along the frame. On gas ranges (FFGF, FGGF, FPGG series), this is the most consistent location.

On electric smooth-top ranges (FFEF, FGEF) built since 2015, Frigidaire moved a portion of the label data to the storage drawer cavity. Pull open the storage (or broiler) drawer at the base of the range and look at the front face of the drawer cavity — the wall directly in front of you when the drawer is fully extended. The label here contains the full model and serial number.

If neither location yields a legible label, check behind the anti-tip bracket on the left side wall panel — this is rare but appears on some 30-inch slide-in FGES and FGGS models.

Wall ovens (FFEW, FFGW, FGEW, FPEW series)

Open the oven door and look at the left interior door frame, the same position as freestanding ranges. On double wall oven models (FFET, FGET, FPET series), the label is in the lower oven's left door frame — the upper oven's frame may be cut off by the surrounding cabinetry.

Built-in wall ovens also sometimes have a label on the left side of the oven cavity interior, visible by opening the door and looking at the left wall of the oven cavity itself rather than the door frame. If you're in doubt, check both the frame and the cavity wall.

Frigidaire Washers

Front-load washers (FFFW, FGFW, FAFW series)

Open the washer door and look at the door seal trim ring — the rubber boot gasket that surrounds the drum opening. Frigidaire adheres the rating label to this rubber ring, typically at the top center or upper left portion of the ring (roughly 11 o'clock position when facing the machine). The label is a white or silver sticker bonded to the gasket material.

Because the gasket is flexible, this label occasionally wrinkles or partially detaches over time. If the gasket label is unreadable, open the door and look at the inner door rim — the plastic ring that the drum opening door closes against. Some FGFW models place a secondary partial label here with just the model number prefix.

Top-load washers (FFTW, FGTW, FFTB series)

Raise the lid fully. The model number label is on the back rim of the tub opening — the rear edge of the tub housing directly in front of you when you're looking down with the lid raised. On most FFTW and FGTW models, this is a white label clearly printed "MODEL / SERIAL."

On some older FFTB units, the label is on the underside of the lid itself — flip the lid back and look at the inner face. This secondary position is less common on post-2018 Frigidaire top-load washers, which standardized on the tub rim position.

Frigidaire Dryers

Frigidaire electric dryers (FFRE, FGRE, FDRE series) and gas dryers (FFDE, FGDE series) both place the rating label on the inner door frame ring — the metal or plastic housing that forms the drum opening. Open the dryer door and look at the inner edge of the opening: the label is usually on the upper or left portion of this ring, visible without reaching inside the drum.

A secondary location exists on some Frigidaire dryers: the front face of the drum itself (the interior drum wall you see when the door is open). This is less common on standard FFRE/FGRE models but appears on some compact FFCD dryers. If the door frame label is faded, try looking at the drum's front face with a flashlight.

Frigidaire dryer labels are frequently faded on older units due to heat cycling in the drum opening area. Frigidaire Microwaves

Over-the-range microwaves (FGMV, FFMV, FPMV series)

Open the microwave door and look at the left interior cavity wall — the inside left wall of the microwave cooking compartment. The label is adhered to the left wall, typically in the upper third of the cavity. On some FGMV models with a glossy interior, the label is on the top frame of the door opening — the strip above the rotating turntable, visible when the door is open.

Countertop microwaves (FMOW, FFCE, FFCM series)

Look at the back panel of the unit — the rear face of the microwave. This is the most reliable location for countertop FFCE and FFCM models. If the unit is pushed against a wall and the back panel is inaccessible, carefully tilt the microwave forward: the label is also on the underside base of most countertop models as a secondary location.

Frigidaire Freezers

Upright freezers (FFFU, FGFU, FPFU series)

Open the freezer door. The label is on the interior side trim — typically the upper portion of the right or left interior wall, visible when the door is fully open. On FFFU17M2Q and similar models, the label is on the upper left interior wall. On taller upright units (FFFU21M1Q and above), the label may be on the interior ceiling panel instead.

Chest freezers (FFFC, FGFC, FCCS series)

Chest freezers use a different convention. The model number label is on the left exterior wall of the unit, above the access panel near the base. This is an exterior label — you do not need to open the lid. On some FFFC09M4L and FCCS201L models, a secondary label exists on the interior left sidewall (visible by opening the lid and looking at the inner left wall near the top).

Reading the Frigidaire Model Number

Once you have the model number, knowing what the letters and numbers encode helps you confirm you're looking at the right parts and understand the appliance's configuration at a glance.

The line prefix tells you the tier: FF = standard Frigidaire, FG = Frigidaire Gallery (enhanced features, stainless-heavy lineup), FP = Frigidaire Professional (commercial-adjacent, the top consumer tier). These tiers use the same parts for many components, but the control boards, door handles, and interior finishes can differ — confirm with the full model number when ordering.

The middle digits encode capacity: on refrigerators, the first two or three digits often approximate the cubic footage (e.g., FFTR1814 → 18 cu ft; FFSS2615 → 26 cu ft). On ranges, the four-digit code is a model variant number, not a capacity indicator.

The trailing letter indicates finish or color: W = White, S = Stainless Steel, B = Black, K = Black Stainless, F = Smudge-Proof Stainless (a Frigidaire Gallery and Professional designation for fingerprint-resistant finish). This is critical for parts ordering — a door gasket cut for a stainless-finish FFTR1814TS is dimensionally the same as for the white FFTR1814WW, but the door panel itself is a different part number.

What to Do Once You Have the Model Number

With the model number confirmed, four immediate lookups become possible:
